Apparently three days ago, a deep sea long line trawler was doing its business when the engines began to run overly hot. Upon inspection it was discovered that the long lines had snagged something on the bottom or near to it, which had sufficient bulk to slow the boat by as many as five nautical knots ... After an hour or so trying to locate the source of their slowdown, the mass released their lines and they sped away. When the lines were retrieved (nets and all) in harbour, the last hundred metres or so of cable was coated in sticky foul smelling ichor, with the consistency of jelly or blubber and the acidic nature of digestive fluid. One sailor was badly burned when he made contact with the goo. In the nets they found parts they described as "Giant jellyfish guts" and "Tendrils of solid and tensile fibrous meat". Nothing scientists from Nagisaki have ever seen before according to my source.

I have a relative and two good friends in the Japanese navy who emailed me the story after their own frigate sighted what they believe to be the cause of this strange event. It was possibly several hundred metres in diameter and resembled a jellyfish or perhaps even some sort of strange cephalopod (Squid/Octopus) and when fired upon it dived quickly back into deeper water.

I guess the japanese like shooting cryptonids....lol

I believe this story to be true as my sources are all reputable and apparently it will be in several newspapers and websites shortly. So ya heard it here first! Any ideas as to what it may have been? Bear in mind that trawling vessels have tonnage as a measurement of weight....they aint small vessels and stopping or slowing them requires considerable mass.

Edit: Actually, I remember reading Jelly Fish don't have brains, makes me wonder how they work

From what I have been told by my wife who is trained as a marine biologist, the Jellyfish is infact a colony of many different organisms that band together to survive in the oceans depths. I have struggled to imagine how lots of little things can make something so woerd as a jey fish for their troubles...when they coulda done some sort of bail out deal with Ford or Geneal Motors...lol
