I've been asked (nagged) to tell my story about my two ghost cats. But in return I want to hear other people's experiences with their pet ghosts. So there. NYAAAH! :P ;)

The story....

It first started with a small stray tortoiseshell cat - Tinker. She was the ugliest thing we had ever seen: coarse fur, blotchy markings, had only six teeth, wall-eyed and bow-legged. But we took her in nevertheless. It soon turned out we were the best thing that ever happened to this little cat, and she rewarded us in return by showing she had a very sweet nature and loving personality.

We spoilt her terribly, and she was very happy. But the time came when death came to claim her. We brought her into the house so that she could die in company of the humans she loved.

A fortnight after her death, she started to make her presence known.

It began one night, when my mother went into the darkened kitchen to get something, and saw a pair of glowing green cats eyes looking at her from the kitchen bench. She swiftly turned on the lights, but there was no cat.
She went back into the living room to check on our other cat, only to find her fast asleep on the sofa.
My mother was perturbed by this, but accepted it.

Then it was my turn.

In the kitchen was a box of newspapers that Tinker loved to curl up in during winter. If any of us went into the kitchen while she was in the newspaper box, she would leap out of the box and land heavily on the floor, so as to greet us.

One night I was alone in the house and walked into the kitchen, turning on the light at the same time. As I did this, I saw Tinker's ghost leap out of the box of newspapers and land on the floor with an audible "thump". As soon as her feet landed on the floor, she vanished.

I knew then she had come back to the place where she was the happiest, and was occasionally seen by other family members, as a brief blur here and there.

Some years later, we had to move house and leave our Tinker ghost behind.

The new house was just freshly built, and was built on what used to be a vineyard.
We again adopted a stray pregnant tortoiseshell cat, who had 4 kittens under the house. We found homes for two of the kittens, but kept the only male kitten and the female runt. The male was a black/white big softy.
At the age of 10 months, the male - TC, vanished and was never seen again.
After about 9 years, things started to happen. My mother had started to see a black and white cat-shaped form occasionally showing in the hall doorway.

Some days later I too began to see this black and white cat form in the doorway, and I got the impression that it was TC, my missing kitten. I mentioned this to my mother and she seemed relieved that I could see it also. And now ever since, we've been able to catch glimpses of this black and white cat in this doorway.

I've checked the doorway to see if anything could be causing this illusion, only to find that it's always dim, even on the brightest of days. So light wasn't the cause.

Well, here's the latest newsflash on my ghostly moggy.

Just one hour ago at 06.40pm on 06 August 08, my mother saw our ghost cat.

Our living cat was out for the night and snoozing on the downstairs sofa.
My mother was relaxed and reclining in the lazeboy, mind miles away. She saw this black/white blur go past her chair. She quickly sat up - wondering how our moggy got in, when she remembered locking our moggy out. She then realised that it was our ghost moggy, which happens to be a black/white cat.

So it looks like the spook is still around. Explains the noises I keep hearing of something walking around, and eating when there was no puss about.

:)

Then it'll never work, 'cos ghosts don't frighten me. The only thing that does frighten me is the tax I have to pay out of my wages. :/

Another update:

My ghost cat is getting even more active. My stepfather has even seen him, and he's not psychic at all.

Y'see, I took the initiative and invited the little ghostly cat into the house. And now he's seen occasionally as a shadow in the living room. Goes nowhere else. :)

Last year I lost my Cattle dog Chuck, sometimes when I go to feed the other dog (Eve) I feel like he is there, It might be nothing, but I feel he is there, and talk to him. I'v never seen him since he passed away, I can't explain it at all. We rescued him from the pound 6 months before he died, and he was 8½ - 9 Some nights eve talks like she use too, as if to say feed me first. I only ever get the feeling, at feeding time or when i'm feeling down, he comes back to eat (I do put a little bit in another bowl for him, even if he doesn't eat it) or cheer me up I think ;)

I also lost my Persian cat last year he was hit by a car, his name was tootey, he was abused before we got him (burnt fur and all) some times I swear I can hear him meowing, but at the same time, we have another cat that came from the pound, I grew up with Tooty and he was all I had left of my dad, I like to think he sticks around because he knows how much he meant to us, and how much he loved us in return

Ben it is not uncommon to feel the way you do about animals. The bond of love that we create between human and animal is very strong and often transcends death.
It's good that you still feel the presence of the dog Chuck it's a good way to get rid of any problems that are worrying you. Animals (ghostly or not) are great listeners and they don't go blabbing.

Supernerd just read your pet story and i liked it. Its very interesting.

I dont have a pet ghost but have had a cat that died. I was away on hollyday and on the day before i was going home i got a call from my mum to say that see just found my cat died laying on my bed in my room. She seen him that morning and he was ok and she feed him also. Any ways she wraped him up and put him in a box and i buried him the next day when i got home. His name was Socks, because he had white feet he also a little white under his mouth.

I love cats thay rule. :)

I believe if you are good to an animal that has been previously abused, they will let you know how much they appreciate it. Even in passing. Like GG said, the bonds that we form with our animals can be unfathomable.

At the moment we have 1 recued dog (spca) 1 adopted dog (owner could no longer keep him). 1 rescued cat (she was in a dumped litter near our home) 2 adopted cats (from a friends litter) and 1 cat rescued (spca) and our new addition a rescued rabbit (spca). So it can be mad and busy but we know they love and appreciate the lives we give them.

Ads like the WSPA one on tv make me want to cry.

I'm down to one cat who's getting old and I'm trying to hint for another puss. Preferably ginger, as they've got great personalities.

I have always loved cats big and small, preferably the sleek animal, I have always had cats they are part of me.......I had 2 siamese sisters whom I loved most dearly, unfortunately they both contracted cat flu, this was years ago, so heart wrenchingly sad, I grieved for my friends, then I had a 'dream 'not long after and hello there they were, but odd thing was but they were little feminine people about 4 ft in height, very pretty, they just wanted me to know they were okay, now I look at my living feline friends with a different eye.......
Another darling one passed on, she awoke me one night purring very very loudly in my ear, it used to be a favorite place for her to lay, across my neck....she was also saying, I'm still here Mum.....
Another odd thing is that three different people at three different times over the years have seen a black panther with me.. when I was under a lot of stress..hmmm I was totally unaware of it........
