Well I'v not actually been on a search, but I am organizing an outing in the near future with some friends who have similar interests (A colonial grave yard and church if anyone's wondering, known hot spot), all I'v got is a sony camera, it's got a record option, but not to great. .

I'd like to get some better equipment and get serious about it though. I'd probably have to relie on equipment, seeing as i'm not to tuned in. Interesting thread though, will be following it. I suspect some good information will pop up

I used my sony digital voice recorder at the last investigation & I am amazed at the sound clarity. Would definately recommend.

I like to carry in a little black satchel, all of the following.

One LED Torch (small but BRIGHT)

One Ball of String

One Bag of Flour (plastic sealing bags are best)

One roll of Gaffer tape (for marking and placing stuff)

Fujifilm Finepix 10mp and cheap Sanyo point and click 8.1mp

Point and click laser thermometer (cheap as on Trademe) This is only useful for ambient temp readings at the cheap end of the market.

Pencils, Pens, marker pens and chalk

Two way radio transmitters (walkietalkies) for however many people are coming

EMF Meter (for reading electromagnetic fields as generated by almost everything to some degree)

Mp3 players x 2 (little 1gig jobbies from dick smith) these have internal mics and record in digital format for analysis on PC at later date.

and last but not least, nor is it in the satchel, the single best bit of kit I have....MY BRAIN. Contains common sense, sensitivity and prior experience.

Try using talcum powder instead of flour, it light and easier to use and clean up after you.

OK i have to ask cause i am not familiar with this.

Why would you need or use talcum powder or flour?

Is it to try and catch footprints?

Talcum powder to sprinkle on a table or floor then place an item inside it to check for movement.
