This arrived today from Sonja.

Hey,

Just wanted to share my experience of the Waitomo Hotel with you. Seven years ago my parents took me and my four sisters to New Zealand on holidays. We wanted to see the glow worm caves in the morning, and when we arrived in Waitomo found this hotel on the hill just about the only accommodation avail besides camping, so we checked in. It was a beautiful building, but right from the get go, down right creepy. While my parents were checking in, I used the lobby bathroom to the left and behind the reception desk, I clearly noticed, floating, dull but obvious lime green lights in my peripheral vision. It was obvious enough to make me leave the bathroom immeadiatley. I could clearly see the green light in my peripheral, but if I turned my head to look directly at it couldn't see anything. During the night, two of my sisters woke up together to use the washroom (they couldn't go alone, cause they were too creeped out all night) when they tried to open the door, they couldn't- even with two of them pulling on it! they left it alone for a sec, completely baffled, tried again and it opened no problem. Besides that, the dining room was insanely cold. The staff were just weird, very distant. And just odd things- we went for dinner, which took forever, we were the only people in the dining room and they didn't have enough menus for us!

The last thing we noticed when we got home, we developed pictures and there is a girl standing in a window looking at our family as we were taking a picture in front of the hotel, our one sister who took the pic was certain she did not see her when she took the picture. I was very interested to hear similar experiences on this site, seeing as how we have been telling these stories for years, and no one had ever looked into it until I did last night![/color]

I have been to Waitomo caves Hotel. We stayed in Room 12A (which was actually between Rooms 11 and 15 and was where Room 13 should have been!)

We took lot of photos and evps but didn't capture anything. The staff even allowed us to go into the unused conference room and we went into lots of the accommodation rooms while they were unlocked for cleaning (a bit naughty but never mind). None of the photos showed anything and only one thing happened which was possibly paranormal. On the second night we were there as I was going to sleep I heard clearly and distinctly a young girl say "Mumma?". There were no children in the room but I heard it as if she were saying it right next to me. No-one else heard a thing.

On talking to the staff they said that they somethings saw things out of the corner of there eye but had not actually seen anything definate. There is a suite of rooms which is often occupied by families which the staff hate as there have been screams heard from the hallway outside when no-one is there!

I must point out that this hotel was quite expensive and not really worth what we paid for our room. The manager seemed to take a disliking to one of our group (not a ghost-hunter) and seemed to go out of his way to be incredibly rude to her!!!
