I wrote about my dog called Space some time ago, I have added a little to the story, this being 10 years after his death. For it to make sense I have copied and pasted the first part as well.
A Dog Called Space

We often hear of people being referred to as ‘sensitive’, I am convinced some animals are as well, cats that meow just before the phone rings, or get up out of their basket prior to the mistress coming home. Well I swear my old dog Space knew what I was thinking before I did. If I planned to turn into the park on the way home he would get excited before I got there, other days I would go straight by, he knew that too. I could go on for a long time about that dog, but instead I will get direct to the point.
I often stopped at the Manukau Memorial Gardens to tend the grave of a close relative, it was ’93, old Space would be along for the ride. On this day I had been to the shops first, which meant Space had been in the car for some time, so I took him behind the crematorium for a run, this was not unusual. A great place to turn a dog loose, a wild area, trees, bush and open ground, as we walked along I went between two trees, about four meters apart, same as we had many times before. On this occasion he would not follow me, this dog that would follow me through fire, stopped dead and would not cross an imaginary line between those trees. On our next visit he walked through those trees without a problem, I have often wondered what put fear into my dog on that day.

I'm adding a little here, I have no doubt you have all heard of the Rainbow Bridge, that mythical (?) place where our our animal friends wait to be reunited with their human, if not Google it. Anyway I have recently spent time in hospital and at a low spot found my big black dog with his paws on my shoulders, licking my face in greeting, we were both very happy. With the cold light of day I think just a dream? Or ten years on does he wait by the Rainbow Bridge? Did I cross for a moment?

I have heard of the Rainbow Bridge, how beautiful! Space is such a cute name!! Your experience in hospital sounds so lovely, that he came to you at this time.
