When I originally started this forum I had a list of groups around the country but none of them had qualified paranormal investigators. So the venture to co-ordinate groups fell through. Now they are popping up all over the place.
I am more than happy to add links to their web sites and have done so on the main site. I will happily add details of their investigations, but please, please, please, they are not out there to help the displaced. They are out there to play with electronic toys and make a name for themselves.
Show me just 1 (one) of these groups that talks seriously about helping the families and friends of a departed and distressed soul how to pass over. In this country there are none....

I personally have over 40 years experience in this field. I don't need fancy equipment or toys to find ghosts, but then neither do I go hunting for ghosts. Most of the work that I do never reaches this site or the main web site. The greater number of the people I help remain private and I never charge for my services.
Please tell me, am I getting too old. Perhaps it's my recent battle with illness that has highlighted my original feelings.
What the hell is the point of chasing around a cemetery or an abandoned building in the hope of finding a ghost! And if you do what do you expect to do with it? Make a new friend???? Get a great photo shot??? Become famous!!
Ghosts are not play things, they were once like you and I, if for some reason they are still bound to this earth, it is for a reason. It is my position that should this be the case then as a sensitive it is my place to help them pass to the other side. Not take the piss by chasing around their home (place of being) taking photographs and EMF readings.
What the hell is that going to do for them.

Ghosts and Other Haunts was primarily set up to tell true ghost stories from New Zealand and around the world.
The stories are fun and the photographs real or not are a point of conversation. But they are, first and foremost a thought provoking reminder into the field of the paranormal.

Please remember, I take ghosts seriously and my associates around NZ and the world are highly respected psychics, mediums or qualified parapsychologists. They provide valuable assistance for the families and friends of all those concerned.

I think you raise an interesting question there GG - "WHAT" is to be done with a ghost when/if one is discovered and why we are really here as individuals.

And I think therein lie all the divisions in the field of paranormal investigators/ghost hunters/sensitives who work in this line etc

I see your stance more on the side of emotional, helping those left behind deal with issues, helping direct the deceased in the right direction etc. For that you dont need the reliance of equipment, cameras etc - as that sort of record keeping, proof, or potential to share with the rest of the world is not fundamental or necessary for you.

Personally I come down somewhere litte more toward the technology end of the scale, but not by much. Partly this is because I have no sensitive talent/s to aid me in my interest.

I dont really know what I would do or feel should I encounter a very 'active' spirit, as some people have. I certainly havent thought about trying to have an ongoing relationship with one (as some claim to do via ouija or seance etc) and I dont have the skills and sufficient knowledge to help one pass over.

My interest in the paranormal and spirits is somewhat difficult to understand - even for myself. While I enjoy emmensely the group dynamic of ghost hunting - I am not interesting in fame from it - gawd knows I dont even show my face on here! HAHA! And although I consider myself pretty sceptic, the question of whether ghosts exist has been proven in the positive to me twice, thru my own experiences.

So why are we doing what we do guys? Why do we lurk around cemeteries and sites of tragedy or dark basements?

Theres got to be more to it than morbid fascination. It can be expensive and there can be little payback financially, emotionally or even results-wise....

What are your objectives?

Personally, I'm interested in the paranormal because I want to "know". Aside from a few weird feelings/sensations, I've never had first hand experience of a ghost or other supernatural entity.
I'd like to have an experience that I can't rationalise as being something natural so I could then firmly be on the believers side.
I'm not interested in fame or cool photos or EVP's. For me it's more of a spiritual thing. I want to find answers, to know what comes after death, and although there are plenty of people out there who will give their opinion on the afterlife I feel the need to find out for myself and not just take someone's word for it.
I too believe that if genuine spirits are found that they should be helped to move on and not just investigated for the sake of science or entertainment.

I would like to encounter another ghost, why? I have no idea. What would I do if I encountered another ghost? I have no idea, I am older then I was, at the time of my first. Maybe i'd run, maybe i'd reach for the nearest Camera or just freeze. For me, it is just curiosity. Not the notion of fame, all though if I could get a good shot, I would certainly try, but not for fame, something to show the grandkids some day, at most.

We have a Church here that is apparently haunted (St Bartholomew's, Google should have a blacktown.gov site) they have ghost tours, but I have not gone, nor do I intend too. If I were to look for ghosts, I wouldn't do it with 3 bus loads of tourists. At the same time, if a friend told me there was a ghost at his house, I would rush over, could I contact it? Yeah, would it contact me back? Probably not, assuming there is anything there, odds are I will see nothing, I prefer to just read other peoples experience's, and learn from that when it comes to ghosts.

I really respect what you do though Grey, but I doubt I could do it.

Here in New Zealand this is a particularly pointed statement. As a nation we are so young there are few instances that will leave a residual haunting. In most cases the oldest type of ghost we can have here is a result of the Maori wars.
In pre European NZ the Maori followed strict rules of Tapu in relation to death, a kehua (ghost) only resulted in the abuse of a Tapu. ie. the desecration of a burial site or the stealing of artifacts.
I have no objections to ghost hunts or investigations, they can be a lot of fun. Just remember that the people you will be disturbing have their own reasons for remaining here and should be treated respectfully.

Me? It is a mixture of scientific curiosity and spirituality. I'd like to actually communicate with the spirits. But since my clairvoyant ability is totally untrained and doesn't work too good, this will be training for me.
I'm used to ghosts, having grown up in a haunted house. :)
But the ghost has got to be real, not a recorded image emanating from quartz in the bricks.
I treat spooks with respect and never ever insult them or goad them, as to me this is really asking for biiiiiig trouble.
:D

I must admit that I am not comfortable about cleansing, saging, salting or anything which is used to "weaken" a ghost or spirit or "force" it to leave whereever it is.

I really don't know that we have the right to do that to a spirit. I think this is especially true of ghosts who are in houses that were once their homes. Who are we to try and 'banish' these souls to another place.

Of course if a spirit has been lost or left behind we can talk to them and perhaps explain what has happened. We can suggest that they move on, or go into the light and sometimes they will but some just don't want to. I have a family member who works in a rest home and she sees an elderly lady in spirit around the rest home. The lady doesn't seem to know she is dead and has been seen having fallen on the floor and holding her hand out for someone to help her! The poor old thing was suffering from dementia before she passed and may be comfused as to what has happened. I've asked my family member to talk to her about it next time she sees her (which is about once a month).

I also find it upsetting when a child is in spirit and hasn't or can't move on. I can't fathom why spirit doesn't sent someone to lead the child or infirm person over.

You can read about Spirits. You can look at pictures of them. You can go to mediums and have a reading. You can look at and belong to every web site that is out there. Read every book ever written. Play with every deck of Angel cards......BUT actually, feeling, hearing and seeing Spirit yourself is something else! Because only then can I believe 100%. That's what drives me and makes me want to be more involved. Spirits, Angels, Arch Angels, Ghosts, whatever it is that surrounds me. To be around when something manifests, in a way that I can see it/hear it. Then and only then can I truely say that I believe. You know the saying "seeing is believing" for me that is everything. I have spent a small fortune on trying to make myself see and hear Spirit. I have spent money I can ill afford on readings, books, card and for what?? To lay my mind to rest that there is more than just this lifetime. To know that when I die no matter how horrible or peaceful it may be?? that Spirits who love me are going to take me and show me something better. I am in all honesty 70% a believer. I believe that their are people out there who do see Spirit, Ghosts whatever you want to call them. I believe that the power of the mind is a wonderful thing and that we are all lead to a certain destination......to the top of the tree per say......we deviate and take detours along some of the other branches of that tree but eventually we find ourselves back on the main trunk and heading in the right direction for a time. I sure dont want to be 'stranded' in some time warp. I want the whole cake. The dying effortlessly and painlessly, the bright white light, the feeling of peace, the overhelming sense of love, and the eternal peace. BUT I would like to know NOW that this exists. One glimpse of Spirit is all I ask for. That's why I'm here. For me.....'SEEING IS BELIEVING"

*SHAKES OF WRITERS CRAMP* There that is the only reason that I am hanging around

V

Mind you! Heaven help any elemental I come across. I've dealt with one before and I won, but I didn't like the experience one little bit. I hope I never have to experience it again. *shudders*
Just thinking about it gives me the creeps.

Please do not confuse Ghost and Spirts, they are two entirely different things.
Put simply, Ghosts have no knowledge of being dead and often require help to resolve it's situation. A spirit knows it is dead and can choose to be on this side or the other. Spirit is also capable of thought, communication and guidance you cannot move spirit on.

Supe, how did you define an elemental. What made it different, would you please describe it, how did it react and what did you do to deal with it?

This elemental was not confined to a building. It could freely move to the neighbours house and often did. It was confined to the land. When seen it would show as this green/white glowing mass that seemed to swirl and pulsate. It was also intelligent and would wait until one was at one's weakest, then it'll do a psychic attack.

To rid of it...

The Lord's Prayer is specifically designed for this purpose and this purpose only....
The Elemental will try to twist the words or make them difficult to say. Persevere and force yourself to say the right words, and fight back psychically.
As I was doing this, I heard a voice that was not mine echo in my head and it targetted the elemental. It said: "This is my Kingdom! Get out of my Kingdom! Get OUT!!"
And the elemental retreated and vanished. Never to be seen again.

This is my method of fighting back. I don't know about the others. I only know this one.

I'm not going into too much detail of its description as strange things happen to me when I do. As if I'm not meant to describe it.
I think the stress of remembering the incident is making me inadvertently do these 'strange things'. PK is not unusual. :P

I forgot to mention, the smell of rotten flesh hung around this creature, and gave off an aura of sheer hate.

Interesting, a great friend of mine Dr Pamela Rae Heath MD wrote a book called "The PK Zone" it's available on Amazon, you should read it. Pamela is a medical doctor but she is also a qualified parapsychologist and psychic and an expert in psychokinesis.
She has been involved in the paranormal for many years.

Her website is

Our group here in oz is a very small group of very close friends. We do have all the equipment and we do use it but it doesnt really matter to us because we approach it a lot differently than other groups, especially american groups. We approach it more in a spiritual manner as most of us are able to acknowledge the presence of spirits one way or the other, which doesnt involve the use of equipment.

We also obtain a lot of interaction and many evp because of our approach. We try to put ourselve in the shoes of these spirits and if we can help them in any way, we try ouir best, even if its through repeated visits back and counselling. We find that the predicament that earthbound spirits are in, is bought about by how they are thinking or why they are thinking what they do. It seems their minds create their reality.

We have found that it doesnt matter what you have experience or what evidence you have, it is never good enough anyway and others find it had to accept because they werent there. I feel it a waste of time really to present evidence, but neveless, I still do. We mainly do it for ourselves and for the spirits. It teaches us about the afterlife and an understanding of it and I am sure we have helped many spirits, just by taking with them. I know of one for sure that has been helped.

This is my belief now frm experiences with spirits and one in particular that was a poltergeist at one time.

We are all spirit, just that the living are encased in a physical body. At death, we leave that body and depending on our own judgement of how we lived our lives, our circumstances of our death, our beliefs and frame of mind, we place ourselves somewhere on an evolutionary spiritual ladder that is of different dimensions and different evolvement. I think that what religions would call hell, is actually the bottom of this ladder and that usually people who lead lives that hurt others physically and mentally and was devoid of love, put themselves in this dimension. They punish themselves because everyone has a conscience and they put themselves where they think they deserve to be. This level , I think, is still devoid of love and very much like how their lives were, except very much exaggerated. I do believe though, that spirits are not condemned to stay there for all eternity. They can evolve but though much examination of their lives and thoughts and very often help from other dimensions.

I think that what we would call earthbound spirits (a lot of people would call these ghosts but i dont like that name and many of these spirits dont like being called that either) are spirits in a dimension that hasnt crossed over to the light. I believe the light to be a level on the ladder that is far up and this is most spirits goal and a perfect existence.

What is classed as the lower astral realms is where many earthbounds exisit. They are closest to the earth plane and so are not entirely of spirit though they are spirit but their thoughts and actions are still based around the earthly ways and they cannot sever these ties becasue of their own free will or misunderstandings. Some can be close to evolving to the light, but often they need assistance or counselling.

I don't necessarily agree with you Tracey. I have been actively involved with the paranormal since I was 16, I'm now 58. I grew up in Ireland, steeped in history and blood. Lots of very unhappy spirits, and many thousands of psychometric hauntings.
I spent 5 years in Australia from 68 to 73 then moved to NZ been here ever since.

You cannot communicate with psychometric haunting (Place memory) these are the haunting's that ghost hunters want to experience, photograph and record.
(roman soldiers walking through walls, royal heads being chopped off, dungeon screams and rattling of chains etc etc)
They are part of the flux in an electromagnetic field.
The energy involved in this type of occurrence is benign. It cannot harm you.
A poltergiest is a not a ghost or spirit, it is a living being. The psychokinetic power of a disturbed or confused mind, often a pre-pubescent child or teenager. It is normally a short lived phenomenon I believe the longest recorded incident was around 10 months.
Displaced spirits on the other hand are a very different proposition. If you fool around with a spirit then you can invite a psychological nightmare.

How do you gather your information on spirit?
How do you personally communicate with spirit?
What qualifies you to counsel spirit?

Lastly, I have to admit this made me laugh..

I suffer from congestive heart failure and I personally have experienced several NDE's, believe me, racing for the light is not always the answer.

This is probably a whole new topic but do you think we actually get the opportunity to choose to go into the light? When I die I'd like to hang around for a while to see what it would be like to be a ghost, but I'd be worried that I might get stuck and become a ghost who can't move on.

I do actually worry about this :? (sad, I know). It could be fun being a ghost, helping ghosthunters out, seeing how scary I could make my evps, hiding stuff and returning it when it suits me, turning things on and off ect. I've told people that once I've gone that I'm going to try and let them know I'm around but I'm scared that the "light" might not last for ever! Just writing this has reminded me of a theory I heard once. It was that if I did get left behind that I could go to a hospital and use someone elses light (ie someone who has just died). This might work but what if the person who had just died missed out because I had waited around, lost my light and then "stolen" theirs! (Sounds like an interesting movie plot lol.)

See I have some different theories on the 'white light' thing myself, but I do think its another topic.

If you want to start it up and discuss it Kiwi, go for it - I will share in there :)

Sorry it has taken so long to respond to this post as I missed this.

First of all, my group have experienced a poltergeist in Berrima courthouse. We experienced it for 3 years. We investigated that place nearly every weekend for those 3 years and we had mediums in there, media in there, visiting australian paranormal groups and sceptic public.
I have much footage of this place with our interactions

That spirit in that place was a poltergeist if you use the correct term meaning "noisy spirit" He was not a manifestation from a pubescent teen..not by any means. He was the spirit of an irishman who was a convict in australia and was hanged at the age of 29. I have researched him from what he told us and also the available records in australia and also have someone who is helping me in ireland presently. We had a communication going with him that involved him rapping or tapping

I am quite aware that you cannot communicate with residual haunting. Most people who investigate, now that. I am not calling that spirit. I am calling the spirit we have inside our living bodies spirit and I am calling spirit of people who have died and not progressed, spirit and I am calling all higher beings, spirit.

I do not agree with a poltergeist activity only happening for 10 months. Our experience lasted over 3 years. I have my team to vouch for that. There is no mistaking that. We witnessed it personally, and we know how it was. I dont care what books say or whatever, we experienced this.

I am not understanding what you are meaning when you say a displaced spirit.

The spirit that we communicated with a the spirit of a man who committed murder during his physical life and he continued to have the same thought of mind and anger in the spiritual existence he was living, inside a courthouse with a few other spirits. He was nasty and full of hate and when he did things he did it our of spite because someone had said something disrespectful about him, or he was wanting to scare us.

Because of this experience that my group had, we do not believe that poltergeist are some manifestation of a persons mind. They may be the source of the energy though. I wont change my views on this ever because of what i have seen and experienced.

How do you gather your information on spirit?
How do you personally communicate with spirit?
What qualifies you to counsel spirit?

You ask these questions.

I gather my information on spirit because i can hear spirit telepathically, I can feel them energetically and I can see them with my third eye. They are abilities that I have had since about 13 but came to the fore when I started to investigate. I investigate scientifically and spiritually and I do use these abilities during this time as well. Everything that I know about spirit is from my experiences with spirit and what I have been shown. I dont need to go to any school and learn this or read books. I do read books to open my mind up to other concepts but I know what I have experienced. No mistaking on my behalf, about that.

I personally communicate with earthbound spirit by telepathy
. This is like a thought voice in my head that has no gender or accent. I have also done it on a ouija board using myself as the medium to communicate with earthbound spirit. Being a medium is not such big deal. Many people are and dont know it. I also communicate with them clairsentiently. Often they will make me feel their emotions whether it be anger, joviality, sadness, grief etc. I have felt this many times and it isnt all that nice to feel at times. At the same time this happens on investigation , I often just know things. I am not sure if this isme being told by the though voice or claircognizance. I have undertaken developemenet classes but it isnt for me. I dont want to read peoples futures etc. I am not interested in the living like this, I am interested in spirit, earthbound ones in particular.

What qualifies me to counsel spirit. Myself.Who in gods name says you have to have a qualification to counsel spirit. I have to laugh at that...sorry. Its a bit like these bits of paper that tell you are a paranormal investigation. What a load of crap!
I know because I am aware of my abilities, that I have a reason to use them. I am very compassionate person towards people. I have to be because I am in the nursing profession both medically and mental health.. I genuinely care about spirit who are in trouble and will try to help them if I can and which I have done the last couple of years. I have done that also with the help of an angel who came to my assistance, without me asking , one time with the spirit in the courthouse.
Anybody knows how to counsel somebody if they are compassionate , have an understanding of the situation and a genuine desire to help.
I have all these.

I feel that you are very condescending. I dont care really how long you have been doing this, what qualifications you may have, or whatever, I have my experiences and my knowledge and my abilities and I know a lot more than you may care to realise.

That is fine if you dont agree. I am not expecting people to. I am stating what I believe and experienced. I am not some fly by night investigator.
Our team , from what I can gather, has had more experiences with proof on footage, that I have seen on many american websites. I am also talking TAPs here. I am not out to show the world that this is how it is. I prefer to keep our experiences for our own spiritual learning.

Also, the signature I have on the bottom of my posts is humour. Not meant to be taken seriously. It was put their as light hearted humour. You mustnt have a sense of humour if you cannot see that.

I am sorry, I dont wish to be a member of this forum anymore. I like the people on here but your comment was way to condescending for me. Its like you know it all and everyone else doesnt or they have not had experiences or do not know about spirit. You invite interaction like I have and I have never been rude on here.

You make me feel that I do not know what I am talking about. You make me feel like I am some fly by night investigator and that because I do this that I certainly could not have the well being of the spirit at heart. You are totally wrong. Please keep in mind for future reference, that people can approach the afterlife in a spiritual way and still carry out scientific research
