It'll also be a great opportunity to get to know and work with each other.
This will help when we write our messages on here, we'll have an actual idea of the face behind the name, and besides.
Also, it will be an interesting, educational and ... dare I say it...? FUN!

I suggest we work in pairs so that we have a witness as well as an extra pair of eyes (and someone who can stop each other from getting lost). :D

I do hope we'll be investigating the oldest part of Waikumete, as that is the most haunted part. Now if we only knew where that part is on the map...!!??

OMG!!!!!!

WE CAN'T GO!!!!!   :x :x :x

The manager I knew has moved on so I had to ask the new manager. He was very nice BUT would not give us permission to do an investigation!

He said it all sounded rather macarbe (sp) and did not want us doing anything which may impact on the reputation of the cemetary ie if people hear there was a "Paranormal Investigation" going on there they may assume that the cemetary is haunted and not want to go there. He thought this would be insensitive to people with loved ones buried there.

He suggested that we ask the Auckland Council if we could do an investigation of the Symonds Street Cemetary as that is now closed and is not place where relatives would be likely to be visiting while we were taking photos, videos ect  The only problem with that is thats I don't think it would be particularly safe for us to go there at night. Its where the street kids and prostitutes hang out !

I did try people...I put on my most "grown-up voice" and I didn't even say "ghost hunt" (it was going to be a Paranormal Investigation)!

Don't worry. I believe you. Same thing happened to me with the blasted Police station ghost hunt.
It's not as if we're going to vandalise the place, we're much too sensible for that. *sigh*

Any ideas anyone? Anyone in Auckland living in a haunted house and would like us to do an investigation into their ghost and their coffee pot? ;)

No use doing a ghost hunt at my home as I've only got a ghost cat.

I think a lot of the places are getting a bit annoyed with us ghost hunters. It's like we'll get them a bad rep and we will be followed by hordes of vandals with spades and pick axes looking for bones.

MUUUUuuuuuHHHHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Oh blast! Sounds like my Black Mass has to be cancelled as I now can't get any corpse parts.
*puts away spade and pick-axe*

But seriously, it is a shame.
As for the manager scared that the cemetary will gain the reputation of being haunted? Too late for that. It's been known for years it's haunted. The majority of the public know that.

There's always Glen Eden Railway station... complete with street kids, yobs and other trash. *shudders*
Not to be recommended.

I'll keep an ear open for more local haunted sites around.

There's a stretch of Swanson Road that's haunted, but I can't find any record of it on the 'net. So I don't know which stretch. :(

Maybe the 'keeping the location out of general public notice' method might work.

If you can get in somewhere - not naming the place in a report or sharing pics that might identify it may help persuade the owner/manager to let you-us in?

As a general rule of thumb always ask management. However, when it comes to a small group going to a public venue within opening hours, I rarely bother to ask, as people taking photos and talking to oneanother is not uncommon, nor is it likely to illicit suspicious looks from people. Graveyards are always open to investigate as long as discretion, sensibility and practical thought and attention is given to our behaviour.

Nuff said...just my two cents worth.

I fully agree, Waikumete is a public area, there is nothing to stop a group of you from going there through the day. There are areas of the cemetery that are of great historical value, research can take many forms. paranormal activity is a legitimate form of research.

If it was at night I would be interested. As I have to have a complete vacuum/clean of the house as my parents are coming back from holiday, and the blasted cat is shedding fur all over the place. :P
And I'm finished by 6pm.

Is anyone up for a 'wander' around with a few cameras in the dark.

Not an official investigation, as we are not allowed to. And the findings/photos restricted to this site.

I will be passing through auckland on the friday 13th(Yikes, scary date) or Sunday 15th

I agree completely the best way to go is asking permission, I think I was a little misunderstood. I meant more when asking people for enterance permission to places to let them know that any results you find will not mention the name of the place or any pictures that will directly identify the location unless management/owners are ok with that.

And while I agree theres really 'nothing' stopping a night ramble in a cemetery with cameras, I think for personal health and safety reasons people should definitely know where you are :)

I went to the cemetary this afternoon. I haven't looked carefully at my photos yet and think I may have got an evp but will have to clean it up a bit to make it out! I did get a strong feeling at one point that someone was with us and followed us for a short while. I took lots of photos and will post anything I find.

It is only the car gates which close at night. There are pedestrian gates which cannot be closed. I would suggest that anyone going at night should park on Glendale Road and use one of the pedestrian entrances which go directly into the older part of the cemetary.

Unfortunately due to daughters 16th birthday, out of town visitors and tickets already purchased for TasteofAuckland (all on that weekend) those nights are completely out for me.

If anyone ever wants to go some other time please message me. Next time I go I'll also mention it on the board to see if anyone wants to join me/us (hubby comes along sometimes).

13th and the 15th are out for me. My leave is finished, and I have to go back to work then...

...bliddy early shift. So no late nights for me for a short while.

If I'm given a date for the event that is a few weeks ahead, I can book the day after as leave if I'm on early shift, or two days if I'm on late shift. :D

Parnell Rose Gardens, I heard that that place was abit spooky, Also there's the auckland domain and the old cemetry on the corner of K'Road. My bestfriends house was haunted but she moved ages ago....Good luck though.
