At woman in Atlanta in the US has been charged with arson after setting two fires in her apartment. She's also charged with endangering others, as the building is occupied by other tenants.

When questioned by investigators, the woman told them the apartment, and her flatmates possessions were evil, and she needed to burn them to cleanse the living area. She stacked clothing, linen, books and lamps in two piles and set fire to them.

One was on the balcony and the other in a fireplace, which spread out into the living area.

When investigators initially arrived they found the woman standing in the middle of the living area clutching a bible, amid all the smoke the fires had caused.

She was eventually taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
